The reason to have your own domain is to have control with you. On the other side the free blogging platform disturb your users with advertisements which you may not want.

Write content is next thing one must do. Updating blog frequently is what most important. If you can not do that then it best to wait until you have time to do so before hosting a blog.

Let the readers know about your blog. Build relationships with readers. This is important because until your blog have readers your blog can not exist. And until your blog has something to read no readers exists. So have fresh content is most important in making a successful blog.

When you are blogging to earn living then monetize you blog with multiple sources. There are now many sources to earn for living through blogging like Google ad sense, affiliate marketing etc…
